Long Awaited Guide to the Snakes of a Fascinating Region

Maluku happens to be my favourite corner of the World and snakes my hobby since my childhood, but for years all I could do was taking photos of specimens I found with no chance to identify them.This book, after similar guides by the same author to the neighboring regions of Sulawesi and the Lesser Sundas, finally fills the gap between field guides to the SE Asian region and New Guinea.Those familiar with the island groups making up the administrative region of Maluku should note that despite the whole region shown on the map on the cover, this book excludes the Aru Islands (faunistically part of New Guinea) and Wetar (covered in the author's guide to the Lesser Sundas).All the rest of Maluku, including Kisar, the Sulas and Gebe are covered. The snake fauna of these widely scattered islands is fascinating and diverse, as is the range of habitats they occur in.There remains much scope for further study, with new species awaiting discovery and describing no doubt, and this very book includes photos (some by me) of specimens the author couldn't identify!Hopefully it will inspire and aid further research into the herpetofauna of this fascinating archipelago.
