I got this for a Spanish reading group. Only lasted 25% of it. I've enjoyed many writers in Spanish, but this - no. A more incoherent, boring and frustrating book it would be hard to find. In some passages earlier on Montalban showed he could write vividly and engagingly. But when he dropped into what looked like stream of consciousness stuff further in, it all got too much for this gringo. I asked myself if I cared what was going on with this historical basque character, or those trying to find out what had happened to him. I didn't.
