This is a tale of some appalling over-privileged parasites in LA, apparently written by some appalling over-privileged parasites in LA. Thinly written main character Lola feels hard done-by because she hasn't worked out what she wants to do in life, despite being rich and well connected. Oh boo hoo, poor Lola, how I weep for her. Lola doesn't have a personality as such, but does have a tediously obvious shoe obsession.Throughout the story, which concerns trying to get women to wear a frock to a party, Lola veers wildly between unconvincing ditziness and unconvincing resolve. Clearly, you hate her from the off - the writers possibly realised that this would happen, and have so made every other character even more utterly repellent to give her some appeal by comparison. Cartoonish celebrities torment Lola continuously, male actors by sleeping with her, which she seems utterly without ability to prevent, and female ones by not wearing the frock. Lola is also beset by an evil nemesis fashionista who has wandered in off the pages of The Devil Wears Prada.It is difficult to work up any sympathy for Lola when her ultimate aim is to clamber her way up a little higher in the filthy parasite pecking order of these abominations. Some pleasure might be had from this book if one was prepared to rewrite the last chapter to visit a zombie cannibalistic rape orgy on the characters, but otherwise it is a completely worthless item that leaves one in a state of deep depression about the wretched state of the world.Finally, I'd like to add that I bought my copy at a boot fair for 50p. Thus, although I was clearly considerably overcharged, I do at least have the satisfaction that none of my money went to the perpetrators of this horrible, horrible book.
